Mycopunk Abomination Assault Guide: Maximising Kills Before the Clock Runs Out
How Mycopunk's Abomination Assault scores kills, which build maximises throughput, and why boss-killer loadouts lose.
Abomination Assault is the one Mycopunk mode with a clock instead of an objective, and it punishes exactly the builds the rest of the game rewards.
There is no extraction, no resupply, and no single target worth killing. The score is how many Abominations you put down before time expires, which makes throughput — not damage per second, not survivability — the only stat that matters.
How the mode works
- Unlocks at level 15. It appears as a special assignment rather than a standard mission.
- Six regions. Gravity Farms, Moldy Tundra, Flourishing Desert, Titan City, Ice Floes, and Runoff Swamp — each with different sightlines and cover density.
- No extraction. When the timer ends, the run ends. You do not walk out.
- Threat still applies. Higher threat means tougher Abominations, which means fewer kills per minute unless your build is ready.
That last point is the trap: threat 6 is not automatically a better score than threat 4. If the added health costs you more than a third of your kill rate, you lose.
The build
| Need | Cell / weapon | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Area damage | Gunship Cannon, Street Sweeper | Targets arrive in clumps |
| Uptime | Cycler, no long reloads | Downtime is the only real cost |
| Mobility | Backboost, Wrangler dash |
Move between spawn clusters |
| Sustain | Repair Siphon |
No resupply exists |
| Fillers | Damage standards | No utility needed |
Gunship Cannon is the default pick. Prism scaling in 2.0.3 means a large pattern converts into area damage, and area damage is what the clock rewards. Street Sweeper is better in Titan City and Runoff Swamp where corridors bunch enemies; Gunship wins in the open regions.
Do not bring:
- Trident S2 or Shocklance. Single-target burst is wasted on a mode with no boss.
- A tank board with no damage. Surviving longer does not help when the score is kills.
- Infection without spread. Mycologist works only if the infection jumps between targets — see the Mycologist build.
Region picks
| Region | Shape | Best archetype |
|---|---|---|
| Gravity Farms | Open, long sightlines | Gunship, Laser Cannon |
| Moldy Tundra | Mixed cover | Cycler, Gunship |
| Flourishing Desert | Open with sparse cover | Gunship |
| Titan City | Tight streets | Street Sweeper |
| Ice Floes | Slippery, open | Gunship, mobility cells |
| Runoff Swamp | Chokepoints | Street Sweeper, infection |
Pick the region that matches your weapon, not the one that looks interesting. The clock does not care about variety.
Rotation discipline
The difference between a good and a great score is movement, not aim:
- Never stand still after a kill. The next cluster is already spawning.
- Kill toward your exit lane, so you are always moving into fresh targets rather than backtracking.
- Ignore stragglers. A single Abomination in a corner is a wasted second.
- Chain area damage. Fire the big cooldown into the densest group, never into a single target.
Using it as a build test
Abomination Assault is the cleanest DPS benchmark in the game because nothing else interferes: no objective, no extraction, no boss phases. Run it twice with two candidate builds and compare kills. It is far more informative than a mission clear time, which is dominated by traversal.
This is also why it pairs well with the farming guide loop — a quick Assault run tells you whether a new infusion actually helped before you spend an hour farming with it.
Rewards and progression
Abomination Assault pays XP on completion plus drops, scaling with threat. It is a reasonable endgame activity but not the most efficient farm — mission XP per minute is higher on short standard missions. Treat it as a benchmark and a change of pace.
FAQ
What level do you unlock Abomination Assault? 15.
Does it end when the timer runs out? Yes. There is no extraction phase.
What is the best weapon for Abomination Assault? Gunship Cannon for open regions, Street Sweeper for tight ones.
Does higher threat mean a better score? Only if your kill rate holds. For most players, threat 4 outscores threat 6.
