Mycopunk Best Builds: Five Loadouts That Clear Every Threat Level

Five Mycopunk builds worth a full upgrade grid, what threat each one clears, and the cells that make them work.

Last Updated: 2026-10-24

Most Mycopunk build lists rank weapons and stop there. That misses the point of the game: your damage ceiling is decided by which hexagon cells you can afford to touch, and the weapon is only the thing that delivers it. A Cycler with a 12-cell elemental grid beats a Laser Cannon crammed into four cells every single time.

So this list is organised by the only question that matters mid-run — what am I trying to clear, and how much grid can I actually fill before the mission ends? Five loadouts cover the whole ladder from Risky to Predicament.

The short version

Build Employee Damage engine Clears comfortably Weak against
Lasso Amp Wrangler Eyes Up Here + ranged burst Risky → Deadly Bullet Hell swarms
Six-Cube Shield Bruiser Modular Construction + reflect Perilous → Onslaught Split Personality
Skyhook Scrapper Eye in the Sky + elemental duration Perilous → Predicament indoor/low ceilings
Star Fuel Glider flight uptime + Rocket Salvo Risky → Onslaught solo single-target bosses
Bloom Mycologist infection stacks + Eye of the Storm Deadly → Predicament fast-moving bosses

If you only read one row: Lasso Amp is the correct default for a fresh account, because it needs two Rare-tier cells to come online and scales all the way to Deadly without a single Exotic drop.

Lasso Amp (Wrangler)

Eyes Up Here is the most reliable damage modifier in the game and it is not close. It marks, it amplifies, and it hands you a speed boost on the way in, so a Wrangler who never fires a shot is still contributing. The build is simple: stack percentage damage and max-health cells on the outer ring where Eyes Up Here sits, then pair it with a mid-range primary that does not care about falloff.

  • Weapon: Trident S2 for threat 1–4 (three pellets per trigger means every damage-percentage cell is multiplied three times), DMLR once you are the person keeping the team alive at threat 5+.
  • Movement: Dust Kick plus Tuck'n'Roll gives you a slide-out leap on its own cooldown. Stacked on Rocket Lasso and Air Dash that is three escapes, which is what actually keeps a squishy build alive on Onslaught.
  • Grid shape: keep the Eyes Up Here cell touching as many damage cells as possible. Because 2.0.2 made larger patterns infuse for more stats, a fat 3-cell Epic is now worth more than three scattered 1-cell Standards.

The failure mode is ammo. Wrangler has no ammo generation in the base kit, so take Ammo Processor before your second damage Epic.

Six-Cube Shield (Bruiser)

The Bruiser's reputation as the tank is out of date — his best build is a movement and utility engine that happens to be unkillable. Modular Construction turns the single Hard-Light Projector into six solid cubes with five extra charges. That is five more stalls, five more projectile walls, and with Backboost five more launches.

  • Core cells: Modular Construction (Oddity), Backboost, Unconditional Protector, then cooldown reduction from Liquid Cooling and Thermal Paste.
  • Why it clears high threat: cover that regenerates on charges beats raw health, because threat scaling multiplies enemy damage but not your ability to break line of sight.
  • Team value: Unconditional Protector hands overshield to allies standing behind the cubes, which is the single cheapest way to keep a Glider alive during Amalgamation Hunt.
  • Weapon: anything with burst. Gunship Cannon's Prism was buffed in 2.0.3 to scale with pattern size, so a wide Bruiser grid finally pays it off.

Do not take Nose Dive as your only damage. It is a panic button, not a plan.

Skyhook (Scrapper)

Eye in the Sky places an eyeball you can hang from. Reposition it while you are hanging and the duration outruns the cooldown — with Parallel Wiring, Spare Cable and Ideal Conditions plus elemental duration cells you get genuine infinite flight. This is the build that trivialises every open-air region: Moldy Tundra, Ice Floes, Flourishing Desert.

The cost is that it does nothing under a ceiling. If the mission sends you into a facility interior, you are playing a Scrapper with an empty grid, so keep a second weapon-and-grid page saved for those.

  • Damage: elemental duration cells do double duty — they extend Eye in the Sky and they extend acid or fire application.
  • Mobility backup: Saxonite Power Cell flings you across the map and needs no setup, which is why it is the correct panic cell rather than Grapple Pole.
  • Best in: Planetary Defense, where the railgun platform is exposed and the boss ship fires from range.

Star Fuel (Glider)

The Glider is the horizontal-mobility answer and the best solo pick for players who refuse to stand still. Rocket Salvo has no movement attached, which effectively makes it a third weapon, and Star Fuel converts flight time into offence. Since 2.0.2, infusing Star Fuel with a larger pattern no longer reduces flight duration — it extends it, which quietly turned a trap cell into a core one.

Two ways to keep the wings up: heal-to-fly in co-op, or damage-to-fly solo. Pick one and commit, because splitting your grid between the two produces a build that does neither well.

Bloom (Mycologist)

The Mycologist needs the expedition chain finished before you can even select her, and she is the only employee whose damage ramps while you are not shooting. Infection stacks, then Eye of the Storm cashes them in — as of 2.0.2 it consumes infection while firing, and the decay rate is set by how infected you were when you started. That means the correct play is to bank stacks, then unload, rather than holding the trigger forever.

  • Sporelift is the passive that builds infection (the 2.0.3 notes fixed an old typo that named Fungal Skewer). Fungal Skewer is your utility placement.
  • Engineered Infection is the multiplier. Without it Bloom stalls out around Deadly.
  • Zone control is the real product: a Bloom build turns a corridor into a damage-over-time trap, which is why it is the best partner for a Six-Cube Bruiser holding a doorway.

How to choose in ten seconds

  1. Fresh account, nothing unlocked: Lasso Amp.
  2. Playing with three friends and dying to chip damage: Six-Cube Shield.
  3. Open-air missions and you like not touching the floor: Skyhook.
  4. Solo queue, no healer: Star Fuel.
  5. Threat 6–7 and you want the fight to end without you aiming: Bloom.

Threat scaling, not weapon choice, is what kills these builds — the threat level breakdown explains which modifiers to refuse before you even load in, and the build guide covers how to lay the grid out so a build survives a bad roll.

FAQ

What is the best build in Mycopunk right now? Wrangler with Eyes Up Here stacked against percentage damage is the strongest general-purpose build in 2.0.x. It comes online early, needs no Exotic drop, and its damage amp applies to every weapon on the team.

Do I need the Mycologist to clear Predicament? No. Bruiser's six-cube shield and Scrapper's flight both handle threat 7. Bloom is the easiest route, not the only one.

Can I run two of the same employee in co-op? Yes, and it is usually a mistake. Duplicated kits stack the same strength while leaving the team's weakness untouched — see co-op builds for the four-way split.

Which build is cheapest to assemble? Lasso Amp. Two Rare cells and one Epic carry it to Deadly; everything else is optional polish.
