Mycopunk Best Weapon Builds: A Loadout for Every Primary Worth Using
Twelve primaries, twelve build answers: which cluster each Mycopunk gun wants and which three deserve a full board.
Twelve primaries, one board. That is the central tension of Mycopunk buildcraft: the game hands you the whole arsenal, but grid space means a loadout is a decision about what to give up.
This page is the weapon-by-weapon answer — what each primary is for, and the upgrade shape it wants. If you only read one section, read the three-capable list at the top; those are the weapons worth building a whole board around.
The three that deserve a full board
| Weapon | Wants | Clears | Why it is worth a board |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Cycler | Fire rate, on-hit effects, Diffraction Driver |
Threat 5 | Every cell that procs per shot scales with 700 RPM |
| Gunship Cannon | Prism, large-board scaling |
Threat 6 | 2.0.3 made Prism scale with pattern size |
| Trident S2 | Precision, single-target burst | Threat 7 (boss) | Turns grid investment into damage on one health bar |
Everything else is a specialist: excellent in one mission shape, mediocre everywhere else.
The full roster
The Cycler
Battery SMG. Fast, elemental reload variants, and Diffraction Driver turns every burst into a cone. The beginner weapon that stays viable because fire rate is the best multiplier in the game. Full layout in the Cycler build.
AU-SI Jackrabbit
A mobility-flavoured rifle. Its value is that it does not fight your movement; pair it with Glider or Wrangler and build uptime cells rather than damage cells. Not a threat-6 pick.
Swarm Launcher
Group damage with a wide coverage pattern. Wants elemental affinity and area Epics. Best in Cleanup Detail and Onslaught swarms, worst against a single boss.
DMLR
The support weapon. It heals. In co-op this is not a joke pick: a DMLR player is the reason a Glider can stay airborne (flight refills from healing) and the reason a shotgun Bruiser survives an approach. Build Repair Siphon-style cells and elemental support, not damage.
Lead Flinger
Spread rifle with sustained fire. The poor man's Cycler: worse uptime, no Diffraction Driver. Take it early, replace it by threat 4.
FR.15833 Plate Launcher
Fires recallable plates. Interesting, and currently compromised — the plate recall bug in multiplayer (still unfixed in 2.0.3 for players joining a run in progress) makes it unreliable in exactly the co-op scenario you would pick it for. Solo, it is fine.
Gunship Cannon
Arcing shells, area damage, and Prism. The best all-round heavy-ish primary in the game after the 2.0.3 fix. Wants a large board — which is a happy feedback loop, because a large board is what you are building anyway.
Trident S2
Precision, single-target. This is the boss weapon. Build one damage cluster, Focus Prism, and nothing else; it wants a lean board, not a wide one.
Globbler
Lobbed projectiles with persistent area damage. The altitude weapon — it shoots over cover, which makes it the Scrapper pick. Also strong in Fog weeks where sightlines are short and area denial beats aim.
The Carver
Spawns health chunks; Sharing Lunch now actually shares them with allies after 2.0.2. The Mycologist pairing, and a legitimate co-op support pick in its own right.
Shocklance
Charged shot, high single-target damage, charge-up time. Punishes you for moving. Best on a stationary boss phase with a Bruiser holding aggro; poor everywhere mobility matters.
Accelerator
The high-skill pick: it rewards accuracy and punishes spread. Wants precision Epics and a player who does not panic-fire. Highest theoretical DPS, lowest floor.
Heavies
| Heavy | Role | Build |
|---|---|---|
| G6 Street Sweeper | Close burst | Damage cluster + movement, see the shotgun build |
| A16 Beam Ripper | Sustained beam | Uptime cells, ammo, elemental affinity |
| Laser Cannon | Long-range burst | Precision + charge reduction |
| The Last Argument | The finisher | Cooldown and damage, not sustain |
Heavies all share one problem: they want you stationary or slow. That is why Bruiser is the natural heavy character and Glider is the worst one.
How to pick in 30 seconds
- Are you solo? Cycler or Gunship Cannon. You need uptime and area.
- Are you the boss killer on a team? Trident S2 or Shocklance.
- Is someone else already carrying damage? DMLR or Carver — support wins those runs.
- Is the mission wide and open? Gunship Cannon or Globbler.
- Is the mission a corridor? Street Sweeper or Cycler with
Diffraction Driver.
What not to do
- Do not run three primaries. Grid space does not grow enough, and three half-built weapons lose to two finished ones.
- Do not build a support weapon as a damage weapon. DMLR with damage cells is a bad rifle; DMLR with healing cells is a run-winner.
- Do not ignore the heavy slot's movement cost. Every heavy in the game taxes your positioning, and positioning is the resource Mycopunk punishes hardest.
FAQ
What is the single best weapon in Mycopunk? The Cycler for most players, the Gunship Cannon for most teams, the Trident S2 for bosses. There is no universal answer because the board budget differs per role.
Is the Plate Launcher worth using? Solo, yes. In co-op with join-in-progress players, the recall bug is a real problem — take Gunship or Trident instead.
Do weapons have their own upgrade trees? No. All upgrades are universal cells; the "pattern" system is what makes a weapon's build differ, because pattern size and placement change what a cell is worth.
How many weapons should I carry? Two. One for rooms, one for the boss or the support role.
