Mycopunk Crossplay: PC and PS5 Multiplayer Explained
Does Mycopunk support crossplay between Steam and PS5? What the store listings and official channels say, how invites work, and how to fix a failed join.
Mycopunk is a four-player co-op game that shipped on PC in Early Access and only reached PS5 on October 20, 2026. The obvious question for anyone with a mixed friend group is whether the two versions can play together, and the honest answer is less satisfying than the marketing around the PS5 launch suggests.
This page separates what is confirmed, what is missing, and what you can actually do tonight.
Quick answer: As of October 25, 2026, there is no confirmed crossplay between Steam and PS5. The Steam listing does not carry the Cross-Platform Multiplayer category, Devolver and Pigeons at Play have not announced crossplay for the 1.0 launch, and the PS5 store page does not mention playing with PC players. Treat PC and PlayStation as separate pools until an official announcement says otherwise.
What the store listings say
Store metadata is not glamorous, but it is the most reliable public signal a multiplayer game gives about crossplay. Steam tags a game with Cross-Platform Multiplayer when the backend supports it, and that tag is absent from Mycopunk's listing.
| Signal | What it shows | Reading |
|---|---|---|
| Steam categories | Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op, Online Co-op, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing | No cross-platform category |
| PS5 store page | PS5 and PS Portal streaming | No mention of PC players |
| Launch press | PS5 release and PS Plus Game Catalog | No crossplay claim |
| Developer channels | Patch notes and launch posts | No crossplay announcement |
That is evidence of absence, not proof of impossibility. A game can support crossplay without tagging it, and a small studio can ship it quietly. But three weeks after launch, with the PS5 version in the PlayStation Plus catalog and a large new audience asking, a supported feature would normally be advertised. It is not.

Why this matters more than usual
Mycopunk's co-op is not a side mode. Enemy counts scale with the party, boss arms scale from four to seven, and several systems — revives, the threat ladder, the crew-composition achievements — only make sense with other people. A split playerbase is a real cost, not a footnote.
It also splits progression. Weapons, upgrades, skins and resources are account-wide within a platform, and no cross-progression has been announced. A PC player who migrates to PS5 starts from zero, with no way to bring the account across.
| What carries over | PC → PS5 |
|---|---|
| Skins and cosmetics | No |
| Weapons and upgrades | No |
| Resources and currencies | No |
| Achievements / trophies | Separate lists |
| Save file | No |
How to play with friends on the same platform
Steam to Steam. One player hosts from the hub, the others join through the Steam friends list or the in-game invite. Steam's overlay handles the invitation; there is no separate account or lobby code system to learn.
PS5 to PS5. Invites go through the PlayStation friends list. The host opens the lobby, sends an invite from the party or the game's social menu, and the invited player accepts from the notification. Both players need whatever online access the PS5 version requires — check the PS5 store listing for the current PlayStation Plus requirement rather than assuming, because the game launched inside the Game Catalog and catalog access is not the same thing as online play entitlement.
The co-op guide covers what to do once everyone is in the lobby: the role split, the scaling rules and the three failure modes that wipe four-stacks.

If a friend cannot join
Work through these in order. Most failed joins are one of the first three.
- Check the platform. If one of you is on PS5 and the other on Steam, stop here. That is the limitation, not a bug.
- Check the version. A patch on one platform and not the other produces a lobby that exists but refuses connections. Both of you should be on the latest build.
- Check the invite path. Steam invites sent from the desktop friends list sometimes do not surface in-game. Send from inside the lobby instead.
- Check the lobby privacy. A friends-only lobby will not show up for a player who is not on the host's friends list, even if they have the lobby name.
- Restart both clients. Co-op session state is held by the host. A host restart clears stale lobbies that no longer accept joins.
- Test with a public lobby. If a public lobby works and a private invite does not, the problem is the invite, not the connection.
If all six pass and the join still fails, it is worth checking the official Discord or the Steam forums for a platform-specific outage before changing anything on your end.
Will crossplay be added later?
Nobody has said. The PS5 version launched into PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on day one, which is a distribution decision rather than a technical one — it gets the game in front of a large console audience without proving anything about the netcode.
Two things would signal a change: the Cross-Platform Multiplayer tag appearing on Steam, or a patch note mentioning cross-platform sessions. Until then, the safe assumption for planning a group is same-platform only.
What to do if you are the odd one out
If your group is split, the cheapest fix is usually to standardise on the platform most of you already own. Mycopunk is $14.99 list on Steam and has been discounted to $7.49 in its launch window; the PS5 version is accessible through a PS Plus subscription rather than a separate purchase for subscribers. For a four-stack, buying one PC copy is often cheaper than buying four consoles.
The other option is to run two groups. It is not elegant, but the game's progression is per-account, so nobody loses anything by playing both.
